The 1:72 Hawker P.1127 (Kestrel) masking set from the Peewit brand covers the cockpit glazing of the pioneering vertical-takeoff aircraft. In the package are templates, not a plastic kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
In the package you will find masking templates, not plastic moldings. They serve to cover the glazed areas during spraying, so that no marks from hand-cut tape are left on the cockpit and the frames come out an even width. You use the set at the moment the model is glued and ready for spraying.
The P.1127 was a British experimental aircraft with vectored thrust from a Pegasus engine, the first to demonstrate vertical takeoff and landing with jet power in practice. The prototypes gave rise to the Kestrel FGA.1 evaluation batch, which in the mid-1960s was tested by an international unit made up of British, American and German crews. The experience from those trials led directly to the Harrier.
The cockpit has a strongly curved canopy, on which the templates need careful seating – work from the center toward the edges and press the surplus down last. Before you start spraying, look at the model against the light to see whether a gap has been left anywhere. Apply the coats thinner, so that no step forms under the edge.
Test aircraft wore conspicuous schemes with bold areas and lettering, which makes crisp frame edges all the more important. It pays to leave the cockpit for last and to take the templates off only once the whole finish is complete.
