Hawker Tempest Mk.II/F.2 1:72 is a set of Peewit painting masks for a model of the radial-engined version of the Tempest. It is an accessory to a kit, not a model.

Pre-cut painting masks in 1:72 scale for a model of the Hawker Tempest in the Mk.II version, designated F.2 after the war. The two designations in the name point to one and the same machine; these are not two different variants. The set is neither a kit nor part of one; it serves to cover the glazing and to set off the frames while spraying. The extent of the set is stated on the box.
The Tempest Mk.II differs from the more widespread liquid-cooled version in its power plant. It carries a radial engine, which changes the shape of the nose, of the cooling system and of the exhausts. It came about as a continuation of the line of fighter and fighter-bomber machines with a strong wing and high speed at low level, and after the war it served on under the designation F.2. For a model that means a different cowling shape and a different arrangement of outlets than the more common variant has.
How clean the part is decides whether a mask holds. Glazing that fingers have touched carries a thin greasy film, which lowers adhesion more than you would expect. Before sticking the mask down, therefore, wash the part in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, rinse it and let it dry completely, and from then on handle it with a glove or with tweezers. Keep the masks themselves on their backing sheet and peel them off only just before use, so that the adhesive picks up no dust. Once the mask is laid on, press the edge home along its whole length, because a mask stuck down only in the middle has a gap under the edge into which paint flows at once. Spray thin coats and at a lower pressure; a strong stream of air can lift a badly pressed corner. Take the mask off while the last coat is freshly dry.
