A 1:72 base with the ruin of a European house is the second version of this subject from the Black Dog brand, intended for displaying a model of 1:72 scale.

A terrain base with the remains of a dwelling building of the European type. The serial number in the name designates the second working-up of this subject, so two ruins solved differently can be placed side by side and a longer street front put together from them.
An undamaged facade shows only its surface. Broken masonry, by contrast, reveals what the building is made of, and the viewer thus looks into the structure. The openings that arise moreover frame the view and allow the eye to be led straight to the model you stand in front of them.
Exposed bricks never have one shade. Mix three or four close tones and apply them piece by piece, not over the whole area. Leave the remains of plaster lighter and slightly yellowish, so that they stand out against the brick. Then let a thin dark solution into the hollows, which will bring the joints out and settle exactly where a deposit would lie in reality.
A fine light pigment applied with a dry brush to the horizontal faces will unify the whole display and join it to the model. Apply it gradually and less than seems necessary, because an excess is difficult to remove.
