Replacement control surfaces for a model of the Hawker Hurricane Mk.I in 1:72 scale, to be set in a deflected position.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.I was a British fighter that, together with the Spitfire, bore the weight of the air fighting over Britain in 1940. It was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine. The design grew out of a tube-frame fuselage with a covering that over a large part of the machine was fabric, and the control surfaces were covered the same way. That is exactly why they look best on a model when the sag of the covering between the ribs can be seen.
Replacement control surfaces make it possible to exchange the parts the kit offers in one piece with the tail surfaces and the wing, and to set them deflected. The model immediately gains the look of a machine ready to start or parked on the apron, instead of a stiff symmetrical pose. Which surfaces the set contains is given by the manufacturer in the enclosed instructions, as is the kit it is cut for.
Separate the original surfaces from the kit part with a fine-toothed saw and true the cut up with abrasive paper on a backing, so that a straight edge is made. If the new parts are not polystyrene, glue them with cyanoacrylate; cement for polystyrene will not hold here. Cut excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down. Wash and degrease the surfaces before painting. Keep the deflection restrained and the same on both halves, otherwise the model looks unnatural.
The aircraft kit, the paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
