A set of decals in 1:72 scale for models of the fighter Hawker Hurricane Mk.I and its naval version, the Sea Hurricane Mk.I. The package holds only the decal sheet with the relevant instructions — a plastic model, paints and glue are not part of it. This is the first part of a series; the individual parts offer different sets of markings, so they do not stand in for each other and can be combined.
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.I was a single-engine fighter with a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine and a structure based on a tube-frame fuselage covered with fabric. It was sturdy, easy to repair and in the first years of the war made up the numerically strongest part of RAF Fighter Command. The Sea Hurricane Mk.I was a conversion for naval use; some of the machines were equipped to be launched from a catapult on merchant ships. During the war, machines of the type served with the units of a number of countries, and among modelers they are a long-standing favorite subject precisely because of the variety of their schemes.
Decals belong on a smooth gloss base — matte paint has a microscopically broken surface, air stays under the decal and the typical silvering appears. Spray a gloss varnish compatible with the paint used before applying them. Trim the decal as close as you can, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it rest on a paper towel until it releases. Move it onto the model with a brush, not with your fingers. Draw off the excess water with the edge of a paper towel. Over engraved lines and rivets use a decal softener and let it work undisturbed — the decal will first wrinkle and only settles once it has dried. Finally, go over the area with a matte or semi-gloss varnish according to the look you want.
The package holds only the decals. The model, paints and glue are not part of it.
