Stencils in 1:72 scale for the Japanese Mitsubishi J8M Shusui rocket fighter. A fine shadow laid on through a mask breaks up an otherwise smooth surface. Intended for the Hasegawa or Platz kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet with stencils for shading the control surfaces of the Mitsubishi J8M Shusui rocket interceptor in 1:72 scale. A fine shadow laid on through a mask gives a flat surface relief and separates the control surfaces from the fixed structure. The set is intended for the Hasegawa or Platz kits.
The Shusui was to be the Japanese answer to raids by heavy bombers at high altitude. It was based on a German tailless rocket fighter whose documentation reached Japan only in part, so the designers there had to do a considerable share of the work again. The machine took off with jettisoned landing gear and landed on a skid, and its propellant lasted only a few minutes. The propellant mixture used was moreover highly aggressive and handling it meant a risk for the ground crew as well. The single powered flight in July 1945 ended in a crash, and in the meantime the war ended before the program got any further. The army counterpart of the same aircraft carried a type designation of its own.
The surfaces on this aircraft are small, so choose a narrow nozzle and work with a minimum of paint. Remove the stencil carefully with tweezers; pulling by a corner can easily tear fresh spraying away along with the base.
