A set of masks for a model of the Japanese fighter Ki-100-I with a bubble canopy, in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Ki-100 grew out of the airframe of the Ki-61 Hien fighter, but it differs in the shape of the forward fuselage, so the two subjects can be told apart at first sight. It was created at the end of the war and among Japanese fighters it earned a good name mainly because it was reliable and easy to handle at a time when experienced pilots were already growing scarce. The rendition designated Ki-100-I with a bubble canopy has a cut-down fuselage spine, and with it a view to the rear.
The masks are cut in advance and made for 1:72 scale. The work with them is short: the shape is laid on, pressed down and sprayed, instead of tape being measured and cut. The result comes out the same on both sides of the model, which is never certain with tape cut by hand. The range of the set and the placing of the individual pieces are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Apply the masks to a dry, clean, degreased surface and press them down around the whole perimeter, so that paint does not get under the edge. Spray in several thin coats; one heavy coat blurs the edge and creates a step on it that is visible after lifting. Lift the mask shortly after the paint has dried with a pull at a sharp angle, not straight up. It is sensible to mask a clear part before it is set into the fuselage.
For modelers of Japanese fighters in 1:72 scale who want the boundaries of the finish sprayed sharply and without slow masking. This is an accessory to a model; paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
