An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov (KP). The subject is the L-23 Super Blanik — a Czechoslovak all-metal two-seat glider. The International boxing is a release focused on international markings, that is, aircraft operated outside their home country. The model is meant to be glued together and painted; the manufacturer's product sheet gives the exact package contents and marking options.
The L-23 Super Blanik is a two-seat all-metal glider designed for training glider pilots, following on from the legendary and immensely widespread L-13 Blanik. The prototype first flew in the late 1980s, and series production ran at the Kunovice factory from the late 1980s until the middle of the first decade of this century. Compared with its predecessor, the Super Blanik received a revised wing and tail structure and was suited to advanced training as well. It is a classic motorless two-seat aircraft used by flying schools — with a tandem glazed cockpit, long slender wings and a high glide ratio. Aircraft also went to operators abroad and flew with aero clubs and training institutions around the world.
A glider is a special case: it has no engine, so all the attention goes to the cockpit and wings. Paint and fit the tandem interior before gluing the fuselage together — it will be clearly visible once the canopy is on. Glue the long, thin wings in a single operation, and while they dry, check that both halves have symmetrical dihedral and incidence — set the model on a flat surface and check it from the front and from above. It is worth lightly sanding the thin trailing edges so they do not look thick. Cut off fine parts (spoilers, tail skid, pitot tube) only right before fitting them, and glue them with thin liquid cement by capillary action. Mask the cockpit and glue the clear parts with canopy cement. Gliders are usually glossy, clean and light-colored — a quality primer, an even gloss coat and only minimal weathering pay off here. Heavy washes and mud have no place here; discreet panel-line highlighting and light traces of operational wear on the leading edges and landing gear are enough.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
