A plastic kit of the Soviet Lavochkin La-5FN fighter aircraft in 1:72 scale from Kovozavody Prostejov. The abbreviation SNP in the name refers to the Slovak National Uprising.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Lavochkin La-5FN was among the most accomplished Soviet fighter aircraft of the Second World War. It came about by reworking an older type for an air-cooled radial engine, which added performance to the machine and was more resistant to hits than liquid cooling. The structure remained largely wooden, which suited Soviet production. The FN version received an engine with direct fuel injection and a cut-down rear fuselage with a teardrop canopy, so the pilot could see behind him as well. The gun armament consisted of two cannon above the engine. The abbreviation SNP in the name refers to the Slovak National Uprising of 1944.
It is a classic plastic kit in 1:72 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, the parts are on sprues and the build follows the usual sequence: the cockpit, closing the fuselage up, the wing, the engine section, the landing gear and the propeller.
Cut the parts off with a sharp blade a little way from the sprue and sand the small area left by the gate down. The fuselage of the La-5 had a wooden skin with a smoothly varnished surface, so the panel lines were not as pronounced as on all-metal aircraft, and you should keep them subtle when picking them out. Mask the cockpit canopy before spraying, not afterwards. Wash and degrease the parts before painting.
The kit will please anyone interested in Soviet fighter equipment as well as collectors of aircraft connected with Czechoslovak history. The package holds the kit; paints, glue and tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.
