A photo-etched set from the Czech firm Eduard aimed at two areas of a model of the Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II in 1:72 scale — the surroundings of the cockpit glazing and the undercarriage. It is precisely there that injection-molded plastic tends to be coarsest: the framing of the canopy and the fine stiffeners and subdivisions of the undercarriage bays and legs cannot be impressed in a mold at a realistic thickness. The set is intended for the build of a basic plastic model of the corresponding type and scale; it is not a model or a kit.
The Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II is the variant of the fifth-generation combat aircraft intended for short takeoff and vertical landing. Unlike the other versions it carries a lift fan behind the cockpit driven from the single engine and has a deflecting rear nozzle, thanks to which it can operate from short strips and from the decks of smaller ships. The design is pursued with the emphasis on a low radar signature and on merging the sensors into a single picture for the pilot.
On modern machines with few visible subdivisions, clean work is essential — separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface and polish the edges after cutting. Make the folds along the etched line, ideally in a bender. Degrease the metal and coat it with a primer, otherwise the paint will not hold. Glue with super glue in the smallest of doses or with slow-setting epoxy. Fit the parts into the undercarriage bays before you close the fuselage and, conversely, leave the elements around the glazing until after clear coating, so that they are not damaged while masking and sanding.
It is a modeling accessory, not a kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
