Painting stencils for the cockpit glazing of a model of the Lockheed S-3A Viking in 1:72 scale. Intended for the Hasegawa kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cockpit of this machine is one of the reasons why building it is considered laborious. The glazing is divided into several panes and the frames form a dense network that a brush manages only with great effort. Shapes cut out of a sheet shorten the work to laying them on and spraying. The set is designed for the Hasegawa kit.
The Lockheed S-3 came about in the 1970s as a carrier machine for hunting submarines. Two turbofan engines slung under a high-set wing powered it and two pilots along with a pair of operators were on board. At the rear of the fuselage it had an extendable boom of a magnetic anomaly detector and launchers for sonobuoys, with which it could follow underwater targets for hours on end. The wing and the vertical tail folded so that the machine fitted into the hangar of an aircraft carrier. The characteristic sound of the engines earned it the nickname the vacuum cleaner.
With broken-up glazing, work pane by pane and press each shape down at once, so that the edges do not overlap. Spray the inside of the cockpit before you seat the glass into the fuselage. After spraying the outer camouflage, let the finish air out and only then take the shapes off. With a network of frames this dense it pays to divide the work over two evenings.
