A set of die-cut self-adhesive masks for building a model of the Lockheed Vega model 5 aircraft in 1:72 scale from Peewit. It is not a kit, but an aid for painting the glazing. The masks are cut for the MPM or Special Hobby kits; on a model from another maker the spacing and shape of the windows differ. The extent of the set, that is, how many areas it covers, is given on the packaging.
The Vega was an American single-engine high-wing aircraft of the late 1920s and the 1930s with a plywood monocoque fuselage and an aerodynamically clean line, which in its day placed it among the fastest machines in its category. It was used to carry passengers as well as for record long-distance flights, and its cabin with several side windows is characteristic of the type. It is exactly the row of windows along the sides of the fuselage that makes painting the glazing on this model a lengthy job, which the masks shorten considerably.
First wash the transparent parts in water with dish soap and let them dry without wiping them with a cloth, so that no fibers or grease are left. Lift the masks with tweezers, place them dry and only then press them down along the perimeter; with the flat windows of the Vega it is mainly the corners that matter. Spray thin layers and let them set in between, otherwise the paint will bleed under the edge. We recommend starting with the shade that is to be seen from the inner side of the frames. Remove the masks shortly after the paint has dried, while the adhesive still comes away easily.
The set is an aid for painting. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
