A plastic kit of the M12 Gun Motor Carriage in 1:72 scale from Italeri, the American self-propelled gun of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M12 Gun Motor Carriage self-propelled gun in the smaller 1:72 scale from Italeri. The model captures the massive gun carried on a tracked chassis and, thanks to the smaller scale, it is rewarding for a quicker build and for a more modest space in a display case.
The M12 Gun Motor Carriage was an American self-propelled gun of the Second World War. It joined a tracked chassis derived from a medium tank with a powerful gun of 155 mm caliber, set in an open superstructure. At the rear it carried a folding recoil spade, which took up the recoil when firing. The M12 proved itself above all in breaking through fortifications in northwestern Europe, where it destroyed bunkers and hardened targets with direct fire at very close range. The crew rode separately on an escort vehicle and moved to the gun only once it was in its firing position, because the open superstructure gave no cover.
In 1:72 scale work with a sharp knife and thin glue, because the parts are small. Finish the running gear before you fit the tracks. For a convincing look choose American olive drab and finish with fine washes into the details and light pigments on the lower areas; in a small scale keep the weathering restrained, so that it does not look coarse.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
