A plastic kit of the American wheeled armored vehicle M1240 M-ATV in the version with the remotely operated M153 CROWS II weapon station on the roof. Besides the injection-molded plastic parts there is a photo-etched fret and a small sheet of decals in the package. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The M-ATV came about as a lighter and, in rough country, considerably more agile complement to the heavy vehicles of the MRAP category, that is machines protecting the crew against mines, booby-trap devices and ambushes. The body has the characteristic V-shaped tub, which deflects the blast wave of an explosion away from the crew compartment, and the vehicle stands on mighty independently sprung wheels with long travel. The designation M153 CROWS II belongs to a remotely operated weapon station: the crew aims and fires from the protected inside of the vehicle with a screen and a controller, because the station carries a day as well as a thermal camera, a laser rangefinder and a mount for a machine gun or an automatic grenade launcher. The gunner therefore does not have to step up into an unprotected station on the roof.
The parts in 1:72 are small, so tweezers, a sharp scalpel and thin plastic cement applied with a fine brush come in useful. Bend the photo-etched parts over a sharp edge or in a bender and glue them with super glue. Leave the assembly of the weapon station for last and glue it on only after the body has been painted, otherwise it is hard to reach with a brush as well as an airbrush. Spray the base sand or khaki shade with an airbrush, then brighten the upper surfaces, add a wash into the hollows and dust effects with pigments. Apply the decals over a gloss clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
