A set of self-adhesive, machine-cut masks for the model of the eight-engine bomber Boeing B-52 in the B and D versions in 1:72 scale, in the highest step the manufacturer runs for this airplane. Compared with the basic form it offers a wider extent of masked areas and details. It is not a kit but an accessory used when spraying.

When to reach for a higher step

The basic step deals with the most necessary masking and is amply enough for a quick build. A higher form makes sense when you are building a model for a display case or a competition and want even the things that are otherwise dealt with by a decal or a brush to be sprayed. A sprayed detail always has the upper hand in two things: it forms no step on the surface and it fits the color scheme exactly, because it is made in the same paint as the surroundings.

Working with a more comprehensive set

• Work in stages and do not apply all the masks at once; some of them are laid on over the base shade, not over bare plastic.
• Plan the order of the colors beforehand — with a multi-color scheme it determines when each mask comes up.
• Carry small masks with tweezers with flat jaws, as pointed tweezers easily pierce or crumple them.
• Return unused parts of the sheet to the bag and store them cool and out of direct light, as the adhesive then stays usable longer.
