This compact injection-molded kit is an ideal choice for a collection of modern warships: the finished model fits comfortably into a display case and still offers the characteristic silhouette of a modern Royal Navy frigate.
The Type 23 frigates were built above all for anti-submarine warfare in the North Atlantic. The design puts the emphasis on low noise, and the ships carry a towed sonar, surface-to-air guided missiles and, aft, a deck with a hangar for an anti-submarine helicopter. HMS Montrose (F236), named after the Scottish dukedom of Montrose, served with the Royal Navy for a number of years and was deployed for long periods far from home waters.
In 1:700 scale clean work is what decides: separate the small parts with a sharp knife and seat them with tweezers. Paint the hull and the superstructures in gray shades to Royal Navy schemes and the deck in a darker shade, and a fine wash will bring out the divisions of the superstructures. The look of the model is lifted further by photo-etched railings from the accessory ranges and by presenting it on a stand or in a modeled water surface.
