A conversion set for the Bf 110 D-3 with the Spanner Anlage device in 1:72 scale by AML. Accessory parts for a plastic kit, not an aircraft model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a conversion set, not an aircraft model. It contains parts with which an ordinary Messerschmitt Bf 110 kit of the D series in 1:72 scale is modified into a machine fitted with the Spanner Anlage device. That was the name of an early German night fighting device which, instead of a radar, worked with infrared radiation: it was to pick up the heat coming from the exhausts of an enemy bomber and show it to the crew. In practice it proved to be of little use and airborne radars replaced it, but historically it is an interesting dead end. On a model it shows in covers and in a modification of the nose glazing.
The Bf 110 was a German twin-engine heavy fighter with a crew of two or three and a pair of liquid-cooled inverted V12 engines. The D series was built for long range. Night fighting gave the Bf 110 a second career after it had proved vulnerable in daylight combat.
The set is for modelers who are building a German night fighter of the early period and want to capture its real equipment. It assumes experience with resin and with cutting into plastic.
It is not an aircraft model. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
