A photo-etched set for a model of the MiG-17 fighter in 1:72 scale. It replaces coarser plastic parts with fine metal elements.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MiG-17 is a single-seat fighter with swept wings and one turbojet engine that followed on from the older MiG-15. Compared with it, it received a thinner and more sharply swept wing and behaved better at high speeds. It served in dozens of countries and saw long service and a long list of color schemes, which makes it a popular subject even for modelers who otherwise do not build military aircraft.
Photo-etched parts are made from thin metal sheet, and so they look more faithful everywhere the material should really be thin to scale: in the cockpit, on the seat, on covers and grilles or on small linkages. In 1:72 scale the difference between a plastic part and a metal one is especially clear, because plastic cannot be made thin here. The exact contents of the set are given in the instructions supplied by the manufacturer.
Work on a firm surface and with tweezers, as the parts are small and apt to ping away. Separate them with a sharp blade rather than by bending, and true up the remains of the tab with a fine file. Make the bends along the marked score line, best in a bender or over the edge of a steel ruler. They are bonded with super glue in a tiny amount, applied with a pin rather than straight from the bottle. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal so that the primer holds on the smooth surface.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
