Big Ed is a package that brings several separate accessory sets for one plastic model together in a single box. In this case it is a complete outfit for the detailed working up of the Mirage F.1 fighter in 1:72 scale. The box holds a photo-etched set of exterior and interior parts, painting masks for the canopy and the wheels, and photo-etched Remove Before Flight tags. The package therefore covers the interior, the exterior and the masking in one go. It is made by the Czech firm Eduard, which ranks among the world leaders in photo-etched accessories.
Photo-etched metal makes it possible to replace the coarser plastic parts with thin, faithfully shaped elements: instrument panels, the seat, details of the landing gear bays and small items on the fuselage and the wings. The painting masks make it easier to spray the canopy frames and the wheel rims accurately. The set is laid out for models of the Mirage F.1 in the matching scale; it is not a kit in its own right and it does not contain the plastic parts of the aircraft.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate) or with glue for photo-etch. Shape the parts that need bending with a bending tool or two razor blades. The painted interior panels can be managed by hand with a fine brush. Apply the masks onto a dry finish and spray thin coats so that the paint does not seep under the edge.
This is an add-on set, not an aircraft model. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
