The Mitsubishi F-2 is a Japanese single-engine combat aircraft that came about on the basis of the American F-16 design and differs from its model above all in a larger wing area and an extensive use of composites. The F-2B version is two-seat: it has a lengthened cockpit with two seats in tandem and serves for training and for combat tasks alike. The aircraft is in service with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and is among the popular subjects with modelers thanks to the striking color schemes of the individual squadrons.
This is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale, the most widespread scale for combat aircraft. The finished model stays compact and fits well into a collection of modern machines, where it can be compared directly with models of the F-16. The difference in the outline of the wing is apparent at first glance.
Separate the parts a little clear of the edge and sand away traces of manufacture, so that the mating surfaces fit precisely. Fit the cockpit glazing only once the surrounding area is painted and glue it with a small amount of adhesive, so that it does not go dull. Seat the pylons and the stores at the end. Wash and degrease the model before painting; even fine shades will then hold better.
The set is for modelers of modern combat aircraft and for collectors of Japanese aircraft. The two-seat version also suits a cabinet where you want to show the training side of service.
