A model of the Soviet RDS-1 atomic bomb in 1:72 scale. It complements models of heavy bombers or serves as a display piece in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
The RDS-1 was the first Soviet atomic bomb, tested in 1949; once it was detonated the United States was no longer the only country to possess such a weapon. Its design was derived from the American plutonium bomb, so it inherited the characteristic shape as well: a massive egg-shaped body with a markedly wider central section and a bulky tail cone with stabilizing fins. Its dimensions and weight matched a load that only a heavy bomber could carry.
This is a model of the bomb in 1:72 scale. It finds a use alongside a model of a heavy bomber, in the display case next to it, and as an object displayed on its own on a base, because its shape is easily recognizable in itself.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down; follow the manufacturer's instructions when gluing. Fit the two halves of the body together carefully, because a lengthwise seam would show on a smooth surface even under paint. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. The bomb has a smooth, barely broken surface, so it pays to paint thinly and to apply a primer coat, which reveals any remaining unevenness before the final coat does.
A model of the bomb is supplied. Paints, glue and the carrier aircraft are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
