The Bushmaster is a wheeled armored vehicle in a 4x4 layout, developed and produced in Australia. It belongs to the category of vehicles with protection against mines and improvised explosive devices: the hull has a shaped floor deflecting the blast wave away from the crew and a high-set space for the carried infantry. The design was driven by a requirement for transfers over long distances in demanding terrain, so it places emphasis on range and on bearable conditions for the crew. During international operations in Afghanistan a number of other states besides Australia operated the vehicle, among them the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
It is advisable to separate the parts from the sprues with side cutters and to level the marks left by the gates with a file. Gluing is best dealt with using a thin cement for plastic, which runs into the joint by capillary action. With a wheeled vehicle it is crucial to build the chassis so that all four wheels sit down on the surface — the model is tall and any crooked wheel shows at once. It is practical to paint the wheels separately and to fit them only at the end, which saves masking the tires. It is good to glue the glazing and the vision blocks with a cyanoacrylate glue intended for clear parts, so that they do not go cloudy. Lay a primer on before painting and use an airbrush on large areas. Gloss varnish will help under the decals, and a final matte varnish will even the surface out. Build the patina up gradually, and on this type of vehicle a dusty cast on the lower areas and around the wheel arches proves itself.
