Which model the sheet is for

The sheet carries markings for a model of the P-51D Mustang in 1:72 scale. It is used at the moment when the model is painted and clear coated to a gloss, that is, in the last step before the final flattening and weathering. Which elements the sheet contains and where they belong is shown by the manufacturer's instructions.

The real subject

The Mustang was an American single-seat fighter aircraft with a piston V-12 and with its radiator in a characteristic bath under the fuselage. Version D was given a bubble canopy and a lowered fuselage spine. It served in both main theaters and after the war stayed in service for many years yet with a number of further users.

So the decal does not show

The most frequent fault tends to be a light edge around an element. It arises from air enclosed between rough paint and the carrier layer of the decal, which is why one works on a smooth glossy base. Cut the element out close to the printing, so that there is as little carrier layer as possible. Before application check in the instructions whether these are wet decals or a self-adhesive form, because a self-adhesive element is damaged by soaking. With wet decals softener helps on broken-up areas: the printing becomes supple and adheres even into engraved lines. Once dry, clear coat the model, and with that the edges disappear altogether.
