A decal sheet in 1:72 scale from DK Decals, built around Bell P-39 Airacobra fighters operating over the central Pacific. It is not a kit but an accessory: the markings are applied to a model that is already built and painted.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra was a single-engine fighter with an unusual layout: the Allison V-1710 V12 engine sat behind the pilot at the center of gravity and drove the propeller through a long shaft running under the cockpit. That left room in the nose for the armament and for a nose landing gear, which was unusual on fighters at the time the type appeared. The cockpit was entered through side doors, much as in a car. Without a turbocharger the type lost performance at high altitude, but it proved itself at lower levels.
The base has to be glossy — a matte coat under the decal will leave a hazy outline around the marking. Cut the marking out closely, soak it in lukewarm water and let it stand until it can be slid along the paper. Transfer it onto the model with a small brush, blot the water away and press the bubbles out. In 1:72 scale the markings are tiny, so handle them with tweezers. Use a decal softener where the decal has to settle into engraved detail. Once dry, coat the model with the final varnish, which will hide the edges of the film.
This is a decal sheet, not a model. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package.
