This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the American P-51D fighter in the early D-5 version in 1:72 scale by the Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov. The edition focuses on the machines of the 52nd Fighter Group. The package contains plastic sprues with engraved surface texture, a clear part for the teardrop canopy and a decal sheet.
The P-51D was the most widespread version of the Mustang: the teardrop canopy improved the view to the rear and a powerful supercharged V12 engine gave the aircraft excellent performance and range. The early D-5 series still had no dorsal fin fillet, which was added later for directional stability. Mustangs escorted bomber formations deep over Europe and became one of the icons of fighter aviation.
Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic. Finish the cockpit before you close up the fuselage; mask the teardrop canopy and paint it at the end. Many Mustangs flew in a natural metal finish, which calls for a smooth base and a metallic coat applied at the end. Apply a primer and bring out the panels with a fine wash, keeping it restrained so that the polished metal looks convincing.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
