A set of photo-etched parts for adding detail to a model of the British Phantom FGR.2 in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Phantom FGR.2 is the British version of the two-seat Phantom II as operated by the Royal Air Force. In 1:72 scale kits it is a rewarding but not a large model, on which every sharper detail shows at once, because an injection-molded kit on its own cannot render fine grilles and straps that delicately.
This is a set of photo-etched parts. Photo-etch is a thin metal fret on which the parts are etched to their final shape and are held in place only by thin tabs. The extent of the set and the parts of the model it covers are given in the enclosed instructions; those also show where the original plastic detail has to be removed so that the photo-etched part sits flush.
Separate the part with a sharp blade on a hard surface, cut through the tab and sand off the remainder so that no sharp stub is left. Make the bends along the etched groove, ideally in a photo-etch bender or between two blades; the metal will take only a few bends back and then cracks. It is bonded with super glue applied a drop at a time on the tip of a toothpick, because polystyrene cement does not hold on metal. Degrease the fret before painting and use a primer for metal, otherwise the paint will chip off the first time you handle it. Small parts are more convenient to spray while still on the fret and to separate afterwards.
For a modeler who already has experience with photo-etch and wants to take a model beyond what is in the kit box. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
