An injection-molded plastic kit of the Swiss Pilatus PC-9M trainer in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Kovozavody Prostejov. The model captures the upgraded PC-9M version and suits builders who will appreciate a smaller but rewarding project. A decal sheet with color schemes is included in the package.
The Pilatus PC-9 is an advanced turboprop trainer from the Swiss firm Pilatus Aircraft. It first flew in 1984 and made its name through high performance, excellent flying qualities and reliability. It serves for the training of military and civilian pilots all over the world and is also used in a form for advanced combat training. The PC-9M version brought a number of improvements to the avionics and the airframe equipment. A two-seat tandem cockpit and a powerful powerplant make it a popular intermediate step before moving on to jets.
In 1:72 scale, concentrate on the tandem cockpit: pick out the instrument panels and the seats with a wash. Fit the canopy glazing and mask it before painting. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement, even out the surface with primer and apply the paint with an airbrush. Trainers often carry bold, colorful finishes or clearly visible high-visibility areas; on gloss surfaces a good base and a final varnish pay off. Choose fine weathering with measure, as trainers tend to be well kept.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
