A detailed R-2800 early engine in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Aires replaces the simplified kit part and turns open engine cowling panels into the main draw of the whole model.

This accessory set from the workshop of the Czech brand Aires brings an elaborate representation of the American R-2800 radial engine in its early version, intended for aircraft models in 1:72 scale. You will replace the simplified part from the kit with the three-dimensional heart of the machine, with its cylinders and cooling fins drawn out, which holds up even seen close up under opened cowling panels.
The eighteen-cylinder R-2800 Double Wasp from the Pratt and Whitney corporation belonged among the most important aircraft engines of the Second World War. Two rows of nine air-cooled cylinders gave, depending on the version, around two thousand horsepower and powered legends such as the P-47 Thunderbolt, the F4U Corsair and the F6F Hellcat. The designation early refers to the early versions of the engine; when choosing a particular machine it therefore pays to go by period photographs.
The basis is a dark gray crankcase and cylinders that look like metal; the cooling fins come out beautifully after a light dry brush in a lighter shade. Anyone who wants to go further will add an ignition harness from thin copper wire. Before fitting we recommend trying the seating in the engine cowling dry, so that the propeller shaft sits exactly on the axis.
