An accessory for building dioramas of laser-cut wood in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Model Scene. It is not a model of an aircraft or a vehicle but a scenery element — once assembled and painted you build from it a continuous board fence that bounds a plot, a yard or a compound in a scene. Thin wood in a natural shade holds the real grain of the material, so it can be toned to any degree of age.
The regular version has boards of the same width and a top edge trued to a straight line. The fence therefore reads as proper joinery, that is as maintained and townlike. It is a universal version that does not compete with the main model and works well as a neutral boundary to a composition — at town houses, workshops, railroad stations and military installations. The irregular versions of the same range evoke a rural fence knocked together by hand instead.
Break the parts carefully out of the carrier sheet and sand the remains of the cut away with fine abrasive paper. Glue with PVA wood glue or with thin cyanoacrylate. Because the fence is regular, it pays to bring variety into it with paint: set the individual boards slightly apart in shade, otherwise the surface reads as artificially uniform. Tone with a wood stain, a glaze or heavily thinned acrylic, add a darker wash into the joints and a light dry brush along the top edge. Work sparingly with water so that the thin wood does not warp, and let the finished assembly dry weighted down. Sink the posts into the terrain of the diorama.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a laser-cut wooden part. The glue, the paints and any further material are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
