A pair of extended missiles with a heat seeker, AA-10 Alamo D in NATO code, will enrich the stores of Soviet and Russian fighters in 1:72. From their radar sisters they differ in the nose, which is covered not by an antenna but by the window of a seeker.
The ET form joins a long body with a powerful motor and a passive infrared seeker. It is precisely that combination that is insidious: the carrier does not have to switch illumination on, the warning receiver of the attacked machine stays silent and the crew has no idea about the launch until they catch sight of the missile. A cooled seeker picks up the heat signature of an engine at a range that was unthinkable with older heat-guided weapons. In practice they were therefore hung in a pair with the radar versions, so that the pilot could choose the guidance that the opponent suppresses less easily with jamming.
It is in the work on the nose that you will see the result most. Suggest the window of the seeker with a dark, slightly translucent shade and polish it over once it is dry; a small glossy point on an otherwise matte missile draws the eye at once. Leave the rest of the body in a uniform light tone and handle the marking with narrow stripes applied over a template. Before gluing, check that both missiles point parallel, or the stores come across as restless.
The missiles extend the armament of a model already purchased. Tools and paints are not enclosed with them.
