R-40R — a guided air-to-air missile, 2 pieces, 1:72 is a resin armament set from Advanced Modeling. This is not an airplane model but underwing armament to complete a kit with.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is a detail accessory, not an aircraft kit. According to the name it contains a pair of resin guided R-40R missiles in 1:72 scale. Missiles of this class are strikingly large and form a pronounced part of the silhouette on a model, so their execution strongly influences the overall impression. The resin casting has no longitudinal parting seam and keeps the sharp edges of the control fins and the lifting surfaces, which on a weapon of that size is clearly visible. The exact number of parts is not stated here; the manufacturer's part number is AMC-72206-1.
The R-40 is a Soviet guided air-to-air missile developed as the armament of fast interceptors, above all of the MiG-25 type. It was produced in two basic guidance versions: the R index marks semi-active radar homing, the T index infrared. In practice both versions were carried in a mixed configuration, so that the pilot had both guidance methods available against the same target. Its characteristic features are its large dimensions, the cruciform arrangement of its surfaces and a massive body with a pronounced radome on the radar version.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water. Cut the casting block off with a fine-toothed saw and sand it down so that the circular cross-section of the body is preserved; when sanding resin, protect your airways and rather work wet. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Painting: primer, a light base shade for the body, a radome set apart on the head and colored bands according to the documentation. Bring out the transitions between sections with a thin flowing wash. Given the size of the missiles, it pays to paint them separately and attach them to the model only at the end.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and a base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
