An add-on radiator with open flaps for aircraft of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190D family in 1:72 scale from the maker IBG. It replaces the part of the front fuselage on a finished kit; an aircraft model is not included in the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
On the Fw 190D family the annular radiator in the nose is the first thing a viewer sees on a model, and at the same time the place where careful work shows. This item offers a radiator with open cooling flaps, that is in the position typical of a machine standing on the ground after the engine has run. The part is intended to be fitted to a finished kit and changes the character of the whole nose without your having to touch the rest of the model.
The Fw 190D is the version of the German fighter with a liquid-cooled inverted V12 Jumo 213 engine, which differs from the older machines with a radial engine in its lengthened nose and rear fuselage. Its radiator is placed annularly around the nose, so at first glance it resembles a radial engine, while in reality it is a radiator with adjustable flaps around the circumference. The position of the flaps changed with the flight regime and the temperature; while standing and taxiing they tended to be open, which for a modeler is the most rewarding and at the same time the most demanding option.
Cut the original part of the nose off along the scribed line, sand the cut smooth and dry fit the new part several times, so that the axis of the nose stays straight. Degrease the surfaces, spray them with a primer and use cyanoacrylate glue for the joint. Paint the inside of the radiator a dark shade before gluing it in, because later you will not reach it. The flaps come out when you distinguish them with a fine accent on the edges and a light wash into the gaps.
