Flottille 12F is among the oldest fighter units of French naval aviation and in 2018 it was seventy years old. For the occasion it dressed its Rafale M with the sequence number 5 in anniversary artwork, which this sheet transfers. The edition is limited; the maker gives two hundred and fifty sheets.
In 1:72 a fin over five meters high shrinks to 7.4 cm, so the finished model, even with the undercarriage extended, passes under a shelf with a clear height of ten centimeters. The length amounts to 21.2 cm. Against the small 144th scale you get twice as much in every dimension and four times the area for the artwork, and that is exactly why anniversary coats read much better at this size.
The set aims at the naval form. You will recognize it by the robust nose leg adapted for release from a catapult and by the hook hidden under the tail. Molds in 1:72 are offered by the firms Heller, Hobby Boss and Academy among others, and differences in the fineness of the surface are noticeable between the individual castings. Anyone who wants to be sure should look over the contents of the box before buying, because not every package contains the carrier parts.
French naval grays have a cold cast and the thin carrier film changes their shade slightly. It pays, therefore, to try one unused element on an offcut of plastic painted with the same color and only then to go onto the model.
