1:72 Russian concrete fence PO-2

PO-2 concrete fence, an accessory in 1:72 scale

The set holds resin castings of the prefabricated PO-2 concrete fence in 1:72 scale from Metallic Details. The box consists of fence panels and separate footings into which the panels seat, so you set the length and the shape of the fence yourself. It is a diorama accessory, not a kit of a vehicle or an aircraft.

What the set is suited to

A prefabricated concrete fence of panels seated in footings is one of the most characteristic features of compounds in eastern and central Europe: it encloses barracks, airfields, depots, factories and railway stations, and it is still in use today. For a model scene it has two great merits: it closes off the view of a diorama and at the same time gives the scene a clear sense of scale and context. The set will therefore serve for military and civilian subjects and for equipment from several decades.

Building and painting tips

Wash the castings in warm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the bottom edges by wet sanding with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The panels do not have to stand perfectly in one plane, as a slightly leaning or turned piece looks more realistic than a fence as straight as a ruler. Concrete is painted from a darker gray base with a lighter coat from above; the result is completed with a dark wash into the joints, damp staining with a light dry brush and dust or mud around the foot. A smaller piece can even be suggested as damaged, since a broken-off corner of a panel is a rewarding detail.
