An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier-based antisubmarine aircraft Lockheed S-3A Viking in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Hasegawa. The model has accurate shapes and a richly detailed surface; the box contains a clear, dark tinted canopy and decals for several marking options. The characteristic features of the real aircraft are the in-flight refueling probe, the retractable sensors and the tail-mounted magnetic anomaly detector.
The Lockheed S-3 Viking was a carrier-based aircraft of the US Navy intended primarily for antisubmarine warfare and later also for patrol, reconnaissance and aerial refueling. It carried a crew of several men and an extensive set of sensors for hunting submarines, including sonobuoys and a magnetic anomaly detector on a retractable boom. The S-3A version was the basic production variant, operated from the decks of aircraft carriers.
Use a thin cement for plastic and finish the cockpit with its dark canopy before you close up the fuselage. Apply a primer before painting and lay the colors down with an airbrush; on the gray and white naval schemes you will appreciate a subtle emphasis of the panel lines and restrained salt-water weathering. Not every edition comes with masks, so for the glazing count on having masking film of your own as well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
