A kit of the light Soviet GAZ-64 off-road car with all-wheel drive from the manufacturer Zebranomodel. The model is in 1:72 scale, that is in the same range in which most small military vehicles and aircraft are built, so it suits dioramas as well as models of aviation equipment. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the exact number of parts and the make-up of the package are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The GAZ-64 is a Soviet light off-road car with 4x4 drive, which came about at the beginning of the 1940s as an answer to the need for a small command and liaison vehicle. It had an open body without doors, a folding windshield and a simple canvas roof. It was a short series, which was soon followed by the derived and more widespread GAZ-67; both vehicles resemble each other in appearance, but they differ in the width of the track and in the details of the fenders and the radiator. The car served as a towing vehicle for light weapons as well as a chassis for derived versions.
A small vehicle in this scale has small and subtle parts: it pays to work over a light surface and to clip the parts off the sprue with cutters only just before gluing. Choose the glue according to the material you find in the package: for injection-molded plastic a thin plastic glue laid into the seam with a fine brush, and for any resin parts cyanoacrylate glue. Spray the whole car with primer first, then with the base green shade of Soviet equipment; on an open body the interior is visible, so paint the seats and the floor before you set the hood and the windshield in place. Do the patina in moderation: in 1:72 scale a thin dark wash in the pressings and a fine dry brush on the edges of the fenders is enough. Suggest dust on the wheels and the underside of the car with a light pigment or by dusting with thinned paint.
