The colorful finish of a Spanish Hornet from the 2022 meet of tiger squadrons, worked up for 1:72 scale. The Spanish specials tend to be exceptionally elaborate.

Spain acquired its Hornets in the 1980s and has upgraded them step by step since, so they are still flying today. They fly from the mainland as well as from the Canary Islands, cover the southern flank of the alliance and spend part of their lives on long overwater transits. Unlike the American machines they never served from the deck of a carrier, so they lack the typical marks left by the arrestor wire.
The Zaragoza wing has a big cat in its badge and is therefore among the regular participants in the annual meeting of kindred squadrons. The Spanish contributions are famous among modelers, because they are not content with a badge on the rudder and stretch the color across the whole airframe, including the external fuel tanks. The 2022 edition was held in Greece and the machine had to fly across the whole Mediterranean to reach the meet.
Artwork across a rounded fuselage is at its most demanding on the Hornet at the wing root and at the air intakes. That is where a decal wrinkles most easily, so it pays to nick it in places where the cut will disappear in a panel line. The technical lettering stays on the kit sheet; this one deals above all with the special coloring.
The Spanish Hornets carry lettering different from the American machines, which is worth keeping in mind when choosing the remaining markings from the box.
