An injection-molded plastic kit of the photo-reconnaissance version of the famous British Spitfire fighter, the PR Mk.XI, in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Kovozavody Prostejov. The release concentrates on aircraft from the summer of 1944 and offers decals for three RAF marking options with the pronounced black and white invasion stripes that the aircraft carried at the time of the Normandy landings.
The Spitfire PR Mk.XI was the unarmed photo-reconnaissance version of the legendary British fighter. In place of machine guns and cannon it carried cameras and extra fuel for long-range flights, with which it mapped enemy territory ahead of Allied operations. Its recognition features were the smooth wing leading edges without weapons and a cleanly finished airframe. The invasion stripes served to identify Allied aircraft quickly during the landings.
Use a thin plastic cement and work in subassemblies. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close up the fuselage. Apply a primer before painting and lay the colors down with an airbrush; the uniform blue reconnaissance finish comes alive with a light emphasis on the panel lines. Crisp, straight invasion stripes are best achieved with masking tape, because the quality of their transitions decides the overall impression.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
