A plastic kit of the photo-reconnaissance version of the legendary Supermarine Spitfire in the most widespread aircraft scale, 1:72. Behind the model stands Kovozavody Prostejov, a Czech manufacturer based in Prostejov. The boxing subtitled International concentrates on the markings of various operators of the type. It is an injection-molded plastic kit that is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Spitfire PR Mk.XI was a specialized reconnaissance version derived from the fighter line with a two-stage supercharged Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. It had no armament at all; instead of machine guns and cannons it carried photographic equipment in the fuselage behind the cockpit and extra fuel stowed in the wing, thanks to which it had exceptional range. A characteristic recognition feature is the deeper profile of the forward fuselage under the engine, into which a larger oil tank fitted for long flights. Reconnaissance Spitfires flew at great altitude and without escort, relying on speed, ceiling and inconspicuousness. Most typical for them is a uniform light blue finish without strong contrast, but other schemes were also used according to the task and the area of operation.
In 1:72 scale cleanliness of work is decisive. Cut the parts off the sprues with nippers, clean up the gate remnants with a file and bond them with a thin liquid cement for plastic, which draws itself into the seam by wicking. Fit out and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage up, mask the glazing and glue it with a cement for clear parts. A single-color reconnaissance finish needs a good primer and an even coat of paint, otherwise the transitions will show. Settle the decals on a gloss base with a softener and finally even the surface out with a matte or satin varnish. Emphasize the panel lines with a thinned wash in a restrained way; on a small model less is more.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
