About product

SS-25 Sickle — launcher vehicle wheels with VI-178AU tires, late rims 1:72 (Armory)

A resin accessory from the Ukrainian brand Armory, the manufacturer's part number ARAC7361. It replaces the wheels of the mobile launcher of the Soviet and Russian SS-25 intercontinental missile. The tires carry the VI-178AU pattern and are cast with a flattened contact patch, so that once the vehicle is settled it looks loaded — plastic parts usually do not have this detail. The rims are in the late rendering; the manufacturer also makes a set with early rims alongside it, so it is sensible to compare the shape of the rim with a photograph of the particular vehicle.

Use

  • Replacing the wheels on the seven-axle chassis of the launcher vehicle in 1:72
  • A flattened tire contact patch for the look of a loaded vehicle
  • The late rendering of the rims as an alternative to the early version
  • A sharper tread pattern than on injection-molded plastic

Fitting and painting tips

Wash the castings in warm soapy water to get rid of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a snap-off knife and level the face on a sanding sponge; protect your breathing when sanding resin. The seat for the axle on this manufacturer's sets is cast as a pre-marked hole that you drill out to the diameter your kit needs. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, a primer coat is a must. Do not paint the tires black — dark gray with dust pigment in the tread looks more convincing.

Who the set is for

For modelers of missile equipment and heavy wheeled chassis in 1:72 scale who want to build the vehicle statically loaded. Check the fit with your kit on the box.

It is an accessory to a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a set of replacement wheels. The vehicle itself has to come from a kit.

The casting has a slight flattening in the contact patch that imitates the load on the vehicle. The finished model then does not stand on its wheels as if on circles.

They differ in the shape and the pattern of the rim. The manufacturer offers both renderings under different part numbers, so it is a good idea to compare the shape with a photograph of the vehicle you are building.

It is the designation of the Soviet and Russian mobile intercontinental missile RT-2PM Topol. The launcher vehicle stands on a seven-axle heavy chassis and the system was in service from 1985.
