Big Ed 1:72 Stirling Mk.III ADVANCED is a bundle of photo-etched accessories from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for building the British four-engine bomber in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit of the aircraft but a set of accessories for a model already bought. The Big Ed range brings together several separately sold photo-etched sets intended for one and the same kit into a single box, so a modeler does not have to buy each part on its own. The manufacturer is the Czech firm Eduard of Obrnice near Most, which makes photo-etch from thin metal sheet; some of the parts come pre-finished in the interior color. The ADVANCED designation refers to the extended scope of the bundle. The contents of the package and the number of parts are stated on the box of the set.
The Short Stirling was the first British four-engine heavy bomber to reach operational service. The Mk.III version was given more powerful radial engines and a modified dorsal gun turret. The type was conspicuous for its tall landing gear and a long bomb bay divided into cells. Once newer types had replaced it in the bombing role, Stirlings served above all for transport duties, glider towing and supply drops.
Cut the photo-etched parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and level the remains of the tabs with a file. The bends come out more precisely in a bending tool, or else between two blades. Metal does not hold with plastic cement, so use super glue; on pre-finished parts a drop of gloss varnish also works well, as it leaves no white bloom. Before painting, degrease the sheet and lay on a primer for metal, otherwise the shade peels. Count on it usually being necessary to remove some material from the plastic in order to seat the photo-etch.
It is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
