1:72 Street with house ruin base joins a piece of street with a demolished house into one diorama section in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The base joins two motifs into one section: a street running through and a collapsed structure beside it. Such a combination is valuable for a diorama, because it holds a contrast in itself. An undamaged road against a caved-in house creates a tension that the modeler otherwise has to produce by his own composition.
The scene offers several places at once to stand a model: in the middle of the roadway, at the edge of the rubble, or partly behind the ruin so that it stays half hidden. It is exactly the last variant that tends to be the most effective, because the viewer works the rest out. The small scale meanwhile allows several objects to be placed on the area without the display thickening. It pays to try several arrangements out dry beforehand and to fix anything only then, because a shift of a few millimeters is able to turn the effect of the whole around completely.
With rubble, what decides is the transition between the whole and the collapse. Masonry at the place of a break tends to be lighter, because it is freshly exposed, whereas the old face is darker and faded. Darken the rubble at the foot of the house with a glaze and lighten the edges just above it instead, so that the small pieces separate from one another. Keep the roadway cleaner than its surroundings and let the dust from the rubble travel onto it only in a strip along the ruin. A unifying final layer of dust joins both parts into a single whole.
