The Su-34 is a Russian twin-engine combat aircraft derived from the Su-27 family and intended for attacks on ground targets. You recognize it by the flattened nose in which the two-man crew sits side by side rather than in tandem as on most combat aircraft. The cockpit is therefore unusually wide, and in a build with the entry hatch open or the canopy slid back you can see well into it.
Color three-dimensional cockpit interior elements in 1:72 scale, made by 3D printing and printed on a decal backing paper. They cover the surfaces on which detail is hardest to do in this scale: the instrument panels, the side walls and the seat harnesses. The elements come colored from the factory, including the lettering and the shading, so painting the tiny gauges is no longer needed. The set is shaped for the kits by Zvezda and Italeri.
Elements of the QD range are applied the wet way: the decal paper is a carrier from which the element is slid after a short soak. It has no adhesive layer of its own and holds reliably on a gloss varnish of the Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 type. Paint the surfaces under the elements in advance, therefore, cover them with the varnish, let them dry completely and degrease them. Cut the part out of the sheet, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds, slide it into place and soak the excess water up with a soft cotton bud from one edge to the other, so that no air is trapped underneath. Work one element at a time and help yourself with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue in the heavily shaped places. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, because the chemicals attack the printed resin.
The set suits a modeler who is building the Su-34 with an open cockpit and does not want to spend hours on fine brushwork. The extent of the set and the placement of the elements are given in the manufacturer's instructions. The package contains the elements on the sheet only; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
