A set of photo-etched parts for models of the early Spitfires in the Mk.I and Mk.IIa versions in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I and Mk.IIa are the earliest production forms of the British fighter, the ones the Royal Air Force took into the Battle of Britain. They are powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin V12, with the Mk.II getting its more powerful version. The letter a in the designation Mk.IIa refers to the wing with eight 7.7 mm machine guns; the later cannon-armed form carries a different letter. Compared with the later versions, the early Spitfires have a slimmer nose, a three-blade propeller and a smaller vertical tail, so they keep the slender silhouette that most people associate with the type.
Photo-etched parts in thin metal sheet for 1:72 scale. Elements that cannot be made thin enough in plastic get a true thickness in photo-etch and the model gains markedly by it. The set is tuned to a particular kit; the instructions from the manufacturer state which one it is for and the range of parts.
Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp knife on a hard surface, as nippers will bend the edge. Make the bend in one movement in a bending tool or over the edge of a steel ruler; bending back and forth tires the metal and the part breaks. Apply super glue with a toothpick, as a drop straight from the bottle floods the area and buries the detail. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a base coat, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. Lay the small parts out on a light-colored surface in advance so that you can find them once they are cut off.
For modelers who are building the early Spitfires in 1:72 scale and want to take the detail beyond the level of the kit. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
