The trainer version of the MiG-29 has no radar and the front cockpit gave way to a second station under a separate section of the canopy; during conversion onto the type it was indispensable. The Slovak examples went through a modification that brought Western navigation and communication equipment into the old airframe, so that the machines could fly in common airspace. One of the aircraft received a striking finish referring to the tradition of meetings of squadrons that carry a big cat in their badge - a combination of stripes, an eye on the fin and additional motifs on the underside of the fuselage.
The tiger stripes do not end at the cockpit here but continue across it, so you work on the glazing as well. Before the film goes on, the transparent part is neither polished nor touched with greasy fingers; a fingerprint shows up under the paint as a matte patch that you can no longer get off. The stencil is pressed down along the frame, and no excess is folded over the edge to the inside anywhere.
On the glazing it is worth laying down a thin coat of clear varnish first. That becomes a sacrificial layer: any paint that might run underneath clings to it and can be removed without touching the plastic itself. The removal then goes without haste, pulling along the glass.
The rest of the pattern on the fuselage is handled like a normal camouflage, only bearing in mind that the saturated color of the stripes needs more passes and each one increases the risk of the edge getting soaked. Give the model a little rest between passes; neither the warmth of your hand nor the airflow from the gun will replace drying under the film.
