A set of cast wheels for a model of the Soviet supersonic bomber Tupolev Tu-22 in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory that replaces the plastic wheels from the kit. The Tu-22 had landing gear with multi-wheel bogies retracting into nacelles on the wing, so there are a lot of wheels on the model and the parting lines on the plastic halves show all the more. With a one-piece resin casting that problem falls away and the hubs stay sharp.
The Tu-22 was a Soviet supersonic bomber that first flew in 1958 and entered service at the beginning of the 1960s. Unmistakable are its two engines set high on either side of the vertical tail. Versions came about for reconnaissance, for carrying a guided missile and as trainers with a raised instructor's cockpit. The machine had a high landing speed and was not among the favorites with its crews. In the West it was given the reporting name Blinder. Beware of confusion: the later Tu-22M Backfire is a different machine with a variable-geometry wing.
Wash the parts in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting block off with a fine-toothed saw and sand the face down, protecting your breathing while you sand. Glue with cyanoacrylate, that is, super glue; cement for polystyrene does not hold on resin. Align the wheel with the one opposite before it dries, so that the model does not stand crooked. Spray a primer before painting.
The set is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
