A kit of the British twin-engine bomber Vickers Wellington in its Mk.IC version, released under the edition name Night Raiders, referring to the type's nighttime deployment. The model in 1:72 scale comes from the Czech manufacturer Special Hobby and is aimed at modelers who like classic early-war aircraft.
The Wellington was the most numerous British twin-engine bomber of its time, and its main structural feature was a geodetic lattice framework designed by Barnes Wallis. A metal mesh covered in fabric gave the airframe remarkable resilience — aircraft returned from missions with large areas of covering torn away by hits. The Mk.IC version was powered by Bristol Pegasus radial engines and had beam gun positions in the fuselage instead of a ventral turret. Wellingtons bore the brunt of Britain's early night bombing raids, later moving on to Coastal Command, training, and secondary theaters. Crews of Czechoslovak airmen serving with a squadron in RAF Bomber Command also flew this type.
The geodetic framework shows through the covering and its fine structure is engraved on the model — watch out for it when sanding seams, since an engraving that has been sanded away is hard to restore. Try dry-fitting the fuselage and wings first. For the night scheme, it pays not to spray pure black: a dark gray-black shade reads more accurately at this scale and lets details stand out better. The upper surfaces then get a two-color camouflage pattern. Apply gloss varnish before decals, and give the whole model a matte coat once they are set. Go easy on weathering — night finishes matted quickly but stayed intact.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints, and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
