Ordinary refuse bins of the kind that stand at the entrances to yards, behind business premises and along the walls of residential blocks. In a display they fulfill an inconspicuous but essential task: they supply buildings with a sense of being lived in. A street without them acts as an architectural study, not as a place where someone lives.
Bulky bins have the advantage of a clear silhouette. Even though they are small at this scale, their outline reads at once when seen from the side and helps gauge the size of everything else around. Placed at the foot of a wall they moreover break up a long level area that would otherwise halve a display visually.
The best result comes from a dark ground over which the body's own shade is sprayed so that the hollows stay in shadow. Metal lids will take a light graphite cast, plastic ones by contrast will not. Apply stains and traces of the contents sparingly: overdone dirt takes conviction away faster than too little of it.
For builders of city and industrial displays who already have the terrain finished and need to settle it in with small pieces. They will serve as an accessory to larger structures too, where the support side of an operation is to be apparent.
Paints, glue and the terrain itself are not to be found in this package.
