1:72 Wheel-track tank BT-5 with cylindrical turret is a plastic model kit of the Soviet BT-5 fast tank with a cylindrical turret from UM.
Responsibility details are not available.
This short-run plastic kit from UM captures the BT-5 wheel-cum-track fast tank in the version with a cylindrical turret. The set is intended to be assembled and painted; to finish it you need plastic cement, paints and basic modeling tools.
The BT-5 followed on from the first Soviet fast tanks and brought heavier armament in the form of a 45 mm gun in a turret with a roomy rear bustle. The chassis with its large road wheels and independent springing allowed running on tracks and, with the tracks removed, directly on the wheels, which was meant to spare the tracks on road movements. BT-5 tanks appeared in the Spanish Civil War, in the fighting in the Far East and in the first months of the Eastern Front. Their weakness was the thin armor, which was enough against small-arms fire but not against anti-tank guns.
The cylindrical turret with its bustle is the recognition feature of this type, so build it carefully: the joint between the turret and its roof has to be clean, and once it is dry, fill and sand it. Assemble the running gear step by step and keep checking that the model sits down on a flat surface. For painting, a uniform green base, lightened upper surfaces to suggest volume and a fine wash into the riveted joints all work well. Dust on the fenders and wear on the leading edges of the wheels will give the model credibility in scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
