An accessory for painting the road wheels of the K1 main battle tank. It is not a kit or a replacement part, but a sheet of masks that covers the rim and leaves the rubber tire band exposed. The cut matches the wheels from the Academy kit. With this range the maker of the target kit is given in the name, because the shape and diameter of the wheels differ from model to model and a sheet from another set will not fit.
The K1 has six rubber-tired road wheels on each side, but the way they are sprung is more interesting. The end stations use hydropneumatic units, the middle ones are on torsion bars. The vehicle can therefore change the attitude of its hull, kneel and lift its nose, which shows on a model in that the distance of the wheels from the hull need not be the same along its whole length. When you build the model in anything other than the neutral position, how much of a wheel actually peeps out from under the side plates changes too. The plates otherwise hide the upper run of the track, so the main attention belongs to the outer faces of the wheels and the lower circumference. Six wheels side by side also cannot be comfortably lined with a brush once the running gear is glued up.
Take the mask off as soon as the paint is holding and let a dark wash run around the tire band. It settles the edge and draws out the shape of the disc and the heads of the bolts. Pigment dust follows on the underside of the hull, on the lower edge of the side plates and into the space behind them. Apply muddy cakes unevenly, mainly on the inner faces of the wheels and by the idler wheel, where dirt cakes on most. The running surface of the rubber tire band wears to a lighter tone, so light dry-brushing around the outer circumference will liven the wheel up better than another coat of covering paint.
Paints, glue and the kit itself are not included in the package. Check before ordering that your kit matches the one the set is cut for.
